Comprehensive Development: Governor Visits the South of Puerto Rico

On December 3, 2009, DISUR held a meeting with Puerto Rico Governor Luis G. Burset Fortuño and members of the DISUR Board of Directors (representatives of the public (Mayors), private and academic sectors) at Pichis Best Western Convention Center in Guayanilla. The purpose of this working session was to present the governor with the achievements and plans for economic development of South Puerto Rico and present DISUR's five region-wide strategic projects. In addition, the Mayors of the South Region had the opportunity to offer a brief presentation on the projects of highest priority with the intention of receiving support from the Government towards their faithful implementation.

After a five-hour work session, the Governor held a press conference, addressing local and state media. In the press conference Gov. Fortuño recognized the success of the meeting, stressing the importance of regionalization for his government, and he committed to following up on the projects and initiatives presented. The Governor stated: There are strategic projects that are related to the development of the Puerto de Las Americas, Ponce en Marcha and infrastructure of the region, not only of roads and aqueducts, but also of telecommunications projects.
