The Alliance for the Integral Development of the South (DISUR), Inc.. is a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of Puerto Rico since June 6, 2006. Its strategic intention is to promote and maximize the competitiveness and sustainable development of the South region, integrating the efforts and resources of public, private, academic and residents of the area to achieve a better quality of life. 


For purpose of this collaborative effort, the scope of the Southern Region covers 15 municipalities: Adjuntas, Arroyo, Coamo, Guánica, Guayama, Guayanilla, Jayuya, Juana Díaz, Patillas, Peñuelas, Ponce, Salinas, Santa Isabel, Villalba and Yauco. 


This initiative recognizes the advantages of integrating sectors to identify areas of strengths, opportunities, problems and plan and develop joint activities or services that benefit everyone. In addition, prevailing responds to the need to strengthen the regional economy to become more competitive.


This effort will result in regional self favourable development of the industry, in obtaining and retaining jobs, training and strategic components in general socio-economic development in the Southern Region of Puerto Rico.


It is the will of the participating municipalities to lay the groundwork for a planned and integrated development which results in an economy municipal and regional sustainable. It will be essential to sound out the particularities of the region, maximise their competitive advantages and complement its activities in economic growth, as is the case of Puerto de las americas Rafael "Churumba" Cordero Santiago and its added value. In addition, establish strategic goals to guide the efforts and resources in the same direction.
